Can I appeal my suspension or my dismissal?
Yes, you can file an appeal if you have been suspended or dismissed and the Scholastic Standing Appeals Committee will review it. Based on the explanation and supporting records in your appeal, the committee may decide to change your suspension or dismissal status.
What should I include in the appeal?
To submit an appeal, you must complete the Academic Action Appeal form. You must follow the appeal instructions, and answer the questions only in the space provided. The committee will not review appeals that are not submitted through the academic action appeal form. Supporting documentation in the form of medical documentation and/or letters of support from academic advisors may be submitted to Morehead Hall Room 132 or faxed to (973) 655-5395 before the May 25th deadline.
Is there a date by which the appeal is due?
May 25, 2009 by 11 pm. Late appeals will not be reviewed by the Scholastic Standing Appeals Committee.
How and when will the committee notify me if my appeal if successful or not?
An email will be sent to your Montclair State University email account on June 2nd notifying you of the committee's decision. Be sure that your Montclair State email account is current and accepting messages. Do not call the CAAAL office for an appeal decision.
I submitted an appeal, will the courses that I'm registered in for next semester remain on my schedule?
If you are enrolled in a Summer pre-session course (beginning on May 18th), that course will be removed from your schedule. DO NOT attend a pre-session course; you will not receive credit for this course, even if your appeal is approved. While appeals are being reviewed, any other courses that you are registered in will remain on your schedule. If your appeal is approved, your schedule will remain intact. If your appeal is denied, your courses will automatically be dropped.
What happens if my appeal is approved?
If your appeal is approved, you can take courses at Montclair State University on a provisional basis with Readmit from Appeal status. CAAAL recommends that students with Readmit from Appeal status work closely with their advisor to formulate a plan that leads to academic success.
What happens if my appeal is denied?
Your suspension or dismissal status will remain. The Scholastic Standing Appeals Committee's decisions are definite, final and non-contestable.
