MAY 2012

Inaugural Todd Ouida Children's Foundation Annual Conference
Date: May 16
Time: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: University Hall, Conference Center - 7th Floor
Description: Todd Ouida Children’s Foundation Annual Conference: Enriching the “Everyday Leaders” Who Support the Mental Health and Well-Being of Infants, Children, and Families. In partnership with: Children’s Aid and Family Services, Inc., Center for Autism and Early Childhood Mental Health at Montclair State University, West Bergen Mental Healthcare . Strengthening the Supports welcomes the everyday leaders of our communities, nurses, clergy, early educators, home visitors, and community organizers, among others, to a day of clinical conversation, connection with each other, and crucial opportunities for self-care. Focusing on the field of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, an interdisciplinary field of study and practice concerned with the optimal development of the child within the context of the family, we expect to impart knowledge about early mental health concerns in families which are often first recognized by or brought to workers within these disciplines. We also will recognize the important contributions made by these workers in responding to the mental health needs of infants, children and families. In addition, we intend to learn from each other’s rich and diverse experience by sharing knowledge and making connections between these traditionally varied and separated disciplines. Lastly, we hope to provide a space for self-care, as we know that time for reflection and care of the self is crucial for best practice and career longevity in this work. Join us as we welcome, honor, and strengthen you, the everyday leaders who support our young families! [CEU's may be available for some professions. Please contact caecmh@montclair.edu for more information.]

Designer Showhouse Fundraiser

Time: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: Designer Showhouse
27 Denison Drive, Saddle River, NJ
Description: Montclair State University’s Public Relations Student Society of America are teaming with the Maureen Fund at Hackensack University Hospital to present Broadway star Christine Andreas as the headline performer for a May 21 Designer Showhouse fundraiser for the Maureen Fund’s second annual Blue Hydrangea Tea Party on May 21. The event will take place at the Designer Showhouse in Saddle River from 11:30-2:30 p.m. Kate Tomlinson, the publisher of New Jersey Monthly magazine, will host the day’s activities. Proceeds from the event will fund educational outreach programs to lower to middle income women about ovarian cancer. The Tony nominated Andreas recently finished a year-long run in a production of La Cage Aux Folles. Prior to that, Andreas starred in the national tour of Light in the Piazza. She has also starred in Oklahoma and My Fair Lady. She has sung in concert in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Town Hall, the Kennedy Center Jazz Festival and the Caramoor Festival to name a few. Engagements in New York at the Café Carlyle and the Algonquin’s Oak Room prompted the New York Times to extol: “She delicately kills with the sheer beauty of her voice.” Liz Smith wrote: “Christine Andreas is everything anyone who loves romantic pop music could want - simply sine qua non.” Her Carnegie Hall debut was hailed as ‘brilliant’, ‘delicious’ and ‘sexy’ in Variety. The fundraiser, taking place at 27 Denison Drive in Saddle River, will begin with registration at 11:30 a.m. followed by refreshments and a performance from Andreas. Following the performance by Andreas, Tomlinson will lead guests on a tour of the home. More than 30 designers and landscapers took part in the creation of this year’s showhouse.
