Greg Addo ’10: From Twitter to the Tonight Show by Way of Newark
Greg Addo ’10 has a dream job as a multimedia producer for Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker. In February 2010, Greg and his colleagues won a Twitter Shorty Award for “best government use of Twitter.” (twitter.com/corybooker)
“The Broadcasting Department made me ready for this job,” Greg says. “I can adapt to any situation and am ready for anything. In one day I might have to create an informative video from a ribbon-cutting for a new park, a press conference, a gala event for a youth organization, and several other things.”
Greg got his BA in Broadcasting with a minor in Photography. He interned at News 12 NJ, where he met the mayor. Booker was looking for someone to produce videos for his team, and Greg’s name kept coming up. He has created about 200 videos for the Mayor in a year and a half.
Greg’s videos have received national press. Mayor Booker and the Tonight Show’s Conan O’Brien had a mock feud after O’Brien made some jokes at Newark’s expense in September 2009. Booker responded with humorous YouTube videos, facetiously banning the comedian from the entire state of New Jersey. The feud culminated with Booker’s appearance on the Tonight Show, which led to a $100,000 donation to Booker’s Newark Now charity from O’Brien and NBC. [View full article]
