The Class of 1959 will celebrate its 50th anniversary of graduation from Montclair State this spring. Class chair volunteers Rachel (Gerardi) Rossnagel, Arlene (Gibbs) Wacker and Patrick Gallo have already met to set the plans in motion. Members of the golden anniversary class will celebrate on May 21 with an upscale class reception/cocktail party at Montclair State's own University Hall Conference Center. The following day, they will be honored at Montclair State’s 2009 Commencement exercises at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford. Wearing traditional regalia: academic caps and gowns and the “official” anniversary sash, these proud alumni will lead the procession of graduates into the arena. Following Commencement, the Class of 1959 will gather at a luncheon in the formal dining room on campus in their honor. Members of the reunion class will receive information in the mail next month.

PBS NewsHour Story Features Montclair State
Montclair State was featured in a story about the effects of higher costs on higher education on the December 9 broadcast of PBS’s “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.” The segment, titled “Rising Costs, Less Financial Aid Squeezes Students,” explored how public universities are coping with having more students and fewer resources.

Whether you were a part of this group in the early days or are interested in joining now, the organizers need a way in which to contact you. Please take a moment to complete this brief information form so that we can keep you updated about the many upcoming initiatives and events at MSU. Other Chapters & Groups on the Rise
The MSU Alumni Online Community is the official home of Montclair State's Alumni Chapters/Groups web pages. Currently there are several active Chapters/Groups. If you haven't already visited the Chapters/Groups pages, click here to see if you are an alumni in a particular regional area where there is a chapter or an affinity group. News, events and photos can be found here as well as a Message Board specific to that group.

The Bergen County Chapter recently sent out a survey and received close to 100 responses answering questions about programming, goals and events. Thanks to all who took the time to participate.

In addition, there are two new groups in the process of garnering members with the hopes of having a presence on the Online Community: Alumni in Law Group and Lacrosse Group. While these groups are in the planning stages, we ask that if you are interested in participating, please e-mail the Alumni Relations office at alumnionline@mail.montclair.edu.

And, if you don't find what you're looking for but have an interest in volunteering to spearhead another Chapter/Group, the Alumni Relations staff can work with you to get the process started.
