News & Notes
And what a day it was!
Thank you for participating in MSU’s
Biggest Alumni Reunion… Ever!

Alumni took the time to pen notes to classmates and to the University during their visit to campus for the Centennial Festival on Sept. 20.
Wrapping up its centennial year celebrations in style, Montclair State University threw a campus-wide party for the whole community on Saturday, September 20 with its Centennial Festival, a day full of family fun, music, entertainment, reunions and more. An estimated six to eight thousand Montclair State alumni, faculty, staff and students, as well as friends from the surrounding communities took part in the festivities and enjoyed the picture-perfect day.
With something for everyone, the Festival featured musical entertainment, dance presentations, theater performances, children’s activities and rides, arts and crafts vendors, a Mini-University, a street festival and a multi-year alumni reunion. Festival-goers were treated to groups performing all types of music ranging from classic rock ‘n roll, doo-wop and jazz to kiddy rock and bag pipe music. The Mini-University, featuring presentations by some of Montclair State’s outstanding faculty was also a popular attraction as were the free hearing screenings offered by the Department of Audiology.

Members of the Alumni Association Board rally around Rocky during the Festival.
Montclair State alumni--many of whom had not been to the campus in years--could be spotted everywhere, strolling with their families, catching up with former classmates, or telling stories about their days at Montclair State. Also impossible to miss were the crowds of children who were bouncing on the inflatable rides, having fun with the stilt walkers and balloon sculptors, or dancing to the music.
The day culminated with the Festival Concert featuring the legendary funk band WAR and a spectacular fireworks display. It would be hard to imagine a grander way to celebrate the University’s 100th birthday--or a more fitting kick off to its second century. To view photos of the event click here.

"George Segal:
Modernist Humanist"
Exhibit, Now through Dec. 11
Sculptor George Segal created his art out of
life's ordinary moments: waiting for a bus,
drinking coffee in a diner, listening to the
radio. Segal's ghostly plaster-cast human
replicas are cognitively complex, modernist,
and formally intricate, while at the same
time, humanly profound. This
exhibit includes works from the collections
of the George and Helen Segal Foundation,
Carroll Janis, Inc., the Solomon R.
Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum
of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American
Art. Curated by internationally renowned art
critic Donald Kuspit.
