Overview

The Makeup Artistry Certificate Program educates and prepares students for productive careers in the broad field of makeup, which applies not only to the cosmetics industry but also television, film, theatre, publications, human special effects and fashion.

Coursework is designed to help students master aesthetic principles and develop practical skills through classroom study and application. Students also study the personal, social, cultural and ethical contexts of beauty and fashion, which encourages understanding and sensitivity towards the uses of makeup and cosmetics in society.

Objectives of the program include the fostering of:

  • Knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed for the creation and application of professional makeup for fashion and beauty, as well as professional theatre, film and television makeup.
  • Understanding the importance of general health and hygiene in regard to skin care and diet.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work as part of a team and demonstrate knowledge of the business of the makeup industry.
