Share/Save/Bookmark

Two of Montclair State University’s BFA in Musical Theatre students have been cast in the upcoming Broadway production of "Bye Bye Birdie", starring TV/film actor John Stamos. Sophomores Allison Strong and Paul Pilcz make their Broadway debut as part of the musical’s ensemble.

The show will be the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller's Theatre (124 West 43rd Street) beginning Thursday, September 10th, 2009 with an official opening on Thursday, October 15th, 2009. This will be a limited engagement through January 10th, 2010.

“We’re very excited that two of our students have been cast in this show,” says Eric Diamond, chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance at MSU. “I think we’re going to be seeing more and more of our students making it to Broadway as we continue to attract the most talented theatre and dance students from across the country.”

The BFA in Musical Theatre concentration at Montclair State University is a rigorous training program offering a conservatory experience within a liberal arts setting. Students receive intensive instruction and a concentrated focus in acting, all disciplines of dance, private vocal training, music theory, movement, production, stage craft and diction.

The goal of this highly competitive, interdisciplinary program, developed between the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Cali School of Music, is to prepare students for professional performance careers. Each student is afforded a variety of performance opportunities in fully staged productions of the highest caliber, mounted in one of six performance facilities including the state-of-the-art Alexander Kasser Theater. A well rounded curriculum encompassing pre-professional training prepares students to compete as "triple threat performers."

This fall, come see more students from MSU’s Musical Theatre program in the department’s production of the musical “A Man of No Importance”, and Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Tony Award-winning musical “Evita” in the spring.
