DEAN DRUMMOND and ROBERTA FRIEDMAN, respectively members of the Music and Art & Design faculty, are included in a new moving image work, Kandinsky: A Close Look (3 Paintings: 3 Investigations) - a 35 min., LimoHD high resolution digital format piece, created in 2009 and showcased at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City: September 25, 2009 – January 8, 2010; screenings in the museum's New Media Theater. It is an investigation of three paintings from 1913 and includes computer assisted eye-tracking, a score composed by Dean Drummond for 8 musicians, and a reading by the former ringmaster of the MoscowCircus of an essay by Kandinsky. It was commissioned by the Guggenheim, produced by Roberta Friedman and directed by Grahame Weinbren. LimoHD, the high resolution uncompressed full color moving image playback technology, was designed and developed by Isaac Dimitrovsky. Click here for more information on Kandinsky.

Art and Design
chairperson/faculty member SCOTT GORDLEY is featured in his second exhibition at Gallery 51 entitled “Family Portraits”. This show is a collection of the artist’s oil and watercolor paintings, on view September 19 - November 1st. The artist is donating 10% of all proceeds from the sale of his work to Montclair State University.
Gallery 51 is also hosting a book signing for Gordley on Sunday, October 18 from 2-4pm. The book is a catalog of Gordley’s two shows at Gallery 51 as well as several essays. Please click here for more information on the exhibit and book signing.

DENNIS CONNORS premiered his 18 minute short documentary film "Breaking Boundaries: the Art of Alex on Thursday September 24 during the opening for Alex Masket at the Summit Medical Center in Berkley Heights, NJ.

MSU students in the Art and Design Department's Animation program created the opening animation sequence for this year's Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival: MetroCAF 2009. The student team was led by MSU Animation Professor WOBBE KONING. The festival itself took place on October 1 at FIT, NYC. For more information on the screening, click here.
