Diversity Week

The MSU community celebrates Diversity Week, an initiative of the Office of Education and Community Outreach and Equity and Diversity Programs. This multi-disciplinary program, is seeking to instill a University and community-wide appreciation and tolerance for diverse perspectives. Consisting of art exhibits, lectures. arts residencies, performances, and a conference - the event unites students, faculty, staff, alumni and surrounding community members in an inclusive setting.

College of the Arts Co-Sponsors Prize-Winning Author Reyna Grande - Crossing Borders: An Author's Journey Across a Hundred Mountains

Latino(a) Caucus Annual Lecture Series

This 2nd lecture for this series will feature Reyna Grande. Winner of the American Book Award, El Premio Aztlan Literary Award, and International Latino Book Award

Born in Mexico in 1975, Reyna Grande was raised by her grandparents after her parents left her behind while they worked in the U.S. She came to America at the age of nine as an undocumented immigrant and went on to become the first person in her family to obtain a higher education.

She is the critically-acclaimed author of the novel Across A Hundred Mountains (Atria 2006), for which she received an American Book Award (2007) and El Premio Aztlan Literary Award (2006). Her latest novel, Dancing with Butterflies, was published in October 2009 to rave reviews. It received a 2010 International Latino Book Award in the Best Women's Issues category.

Author of “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" to do literary reading and book signing

Multiple award-winning novelist, editor, and university professor, Junot Díaz will conduct a literary reading and book signing at Montclair State University on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. The event, which will be held in on the 7th floor of University Hall in the Conference Center, is free and open to all members of the University community as well as the general public. Passports to Remembrance:
These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things

Featuring photography from the Creative Aging Initiative program of the Montclair Arts Council, documenting the lives of senior citizens. Forty subjects were photographed with a piece of memorabilia of special significance to them. A senior photographer and a senior interviewer recorded each participant's remembrance. The project provides the public with insights into the personal histories and experiences of this generation. Please see full Press Release here.

2007

February 2007 - Amy Marshall Dance/YMCA performance

The Amy Marshall Dance Company, a nationally renowned New York based company, brought modern dance to the Montclair YMCA after-school program during an eight week residency. The goal to produce a heightened arts awareness and understanding of dance surpassed original expectations. The YMCA participating students will perform as the pre-show for the Amy Marshall Dance Company, showcasing compositions they created through the newfound exposure.

The Amy Marshall Dance Company will perform four athletic, diverse works that excite and inspire audiences of all ages.
