RED HAWKS COMPETE AT PENN RELAYS
Philadelphia, PA (4/26/08) – The Montclair State outdoor track and field team put together some outstanding performances as the Red Hawks had three individuals and one relay squad compete at the prestigious Penn Relay Carnival on April 24-26.
Freshman Monique Riddick ( Edison, NJ / Bishop Ahr) placed fourth in the shot put among the field of 22 competitors comprised mostly of Division I athletes. Riddick, who is headed to the NCAA Division III Championships next month, posted a throw of 14.16 meters (46-feet, 5.5-inches).
Junior Eugene Asimou ( Livingston, NJ / Livingston) also had another solid performance placing ninth in the shot put as he recorded a best throw of 15.48 meters (50-feet, 9.5 inches).
The Red Hawks also took part in the CTC section of the 4x400 meter relay and placed third. Andrew Nnadi (West Orange, NJ / West Orange), Elvis Cole (Hackensack, NJ / Northern Higlands), Will Brown (Gloucester, NJ / Palmyra) and Terry Iavarone (North Arlington, NJ / North Arlington) registered a time of 3:21.63 as Brown’s 48.1 split during the third leg of the race put the Red Hawks back in contention for their Top 3 finish.
John Tshilas ( Livingston, NJ / Livingston) placed seventh in the decathlon as he was among the field of nine competitors, including two Division III athletes. Tshilas totaled 5,729 points. He was third in the 110 hurdles (16.61) and was fourth in the 100 meters (11.54) and 400 meters (53.05); sixth in the discus (32.44 meters); seventh in the long jump (6.22 meters), high jump (1.72 meters) and 1500 meters (5:08.50); eighth in the shot put (10.94 meters) and pole vault (3.65 meters) and ninth in the javelin (33.99 meters).
MSU returns to action on Saturday, May 3 as the Red Hawks compete in the 2008 NJAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, NJ. |
