Prepare to Search
Preparing Students to Search the Internet
We often send students on quests to retrieve information from the internet, without giving them an understanding of the searching tools that they have at their disposal.
Sending them out onto the internet without an understanding of how to search, evaluate and cite, essentially leaves them unprepared to do the work that they are asked to do.
Just as riding in a car does not prepare you necessarily to drive it, surfing the internet does not necessarily prepare you to be an effective researcher using it.
This workshop will teach you how searching skills, evaluation and citation work together to make you a more informed user. It will also help you to teach students the information literacy skills that they need to succeed in both the current education environment and the workforce that they will be entering into.
