Montclair State’s business education has come a long way from the days, starting over 75 years ago, when students were trained to be teachers of business in secondary schools. They studied typing, shorthand (both Gregg and Pittman), and bookkeeping.

Today’s School of Business students study finance, statistics, ethics, information systems, and the latest theory and practice of management at both the undergraduate and M.B.A. levels. Under the leadership of Dean Alan Oppenheim, the School prepares students to become business leaders in a very complex modern global economy.

This year’s Annual Dinner celebrated the 25th anniversary of the School of Business. Three hundred attendees— alumni, friends and corporate sponsors—networked, saw friends and gathered in the new Conference Center of University Hall on May 3 for this festive occasion. Robert C. Waggoner, President and CEO of BurrellesLuce, the world’s leading media monitoring organization, served as the dinner’s keynote speaker. Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and students of the School of Business.

Carpe Diem awards, the University’s highest honor, were presented to School of Business students Elise A. Bethke, Al-Nesha Jones and Anatoliy Shir. Alumni Carpe Diem awards were presented to Keith H. Ansbacher '79, Susan Head M.A. '75, Nicholas J. Matarazzo '79, Paul V. Stahlin '74 and David Wertheim '79.

Planning has already begun for next year’s annual dinner, which will be held in late April/early May 2007. Information will be forthcoming.
