Faculty Scholarship Incentive Program (FSIP)

The Faculty Scholarship Incentive Program (FSIP) was created in 1994 by Dr. Richard Lynde, Provost of Montclair State University in collaboration with our local union, AFT 1904). The program was intended to create opportunity for faculty not only to create release time from teaching duties in which to enhance their scholarship but to allow faculty to be judged for promotion in an academic cateory of their choice. The categories were and remain: Scholarship of Teaching, Scholarship of Pedagogy, Scholarship of Discovery and Aesthetic Creation, and Scholarship of Application. The program has proven, over the years, to be a success not only for individual faculty but for the institution.

With a few exceptions explained in the documentation on FSIP at the links below, any full-time faculty member may, after successfully navigating the approval process, participate in FSIP. The process is not arduous and can bring rewarding collaboration with colleagues at Montclair State and elsewhere. Many of our college and university distinguished scholars have participated in FSIP either as the capstone in their scholarship or as a means to jump start new avenues of research.
