We evaluated students' responses to Detectives in the Classroom using a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test, experimental/control group design. (The database is currently being analyzed.)
The sixty-two item pre-test and post-test instruments, answered 5-9 months apart, were identical.
There were five categories of test items: self-reported abilities in scientific inquiry (7 items), self-reported attributes of scientific literacy (6 items), self-reported understanding of the curriculum's five enduring epidemiological understandings (5 items), attitudes toward science (33 items), and epidemiologic knowledge (11 items).
