A Typical Program Day at the Gifted and Talented Camp!

The gifted and talented camp is filled with exercise for the mind and the body. Days are packed with rigorous, hands-on learning and inquiry as students participate in academic courses, physical activity and cultural sharing in state-of -the-art university facilities. Daily experiences are diverse and vary depending on the individual schedules students have selected. Below is a typical schedule for the Gifted and Talented Program on the 252-acre campus of Montclair State University.

7:30-8:10:  Students are dropped off by their parents and signed in by one of our teaching assistants.  

8:15 – 9:30 a.m. (Period 1):  Students move to the first class they have personally selected from among over 100 options (with most choices being academic) Students choices could be a science, math, humanities or cultural/recreational course. Students may focus in one content area for the entire morning, or opt to take courses in several disciplines.

9:40- 10:55 a.m. (Period 2): Students move to the second course they have chosen.

11:05 a.m. - 12:20 (Period 3):  Students enjoy their third, personally selected course of the morning.

12:20- 1:00:  Students gather in Blanton Hall for an all you can eat, hot, buffet lunch

1:10: Students who have registered for a 1/2 day pick-up.

1:15-2:30p.m.(Period 4):  Students select from over 20 possible cultural or recreational classes including martial arts, theater arts,  painting, photography, soccer, yoga, tennis, swimming, ice skating, dance, fencing

2:45-4:00 p.m. (Period 5) : Students select from over 20 possible cultural or recreational classes including martial arts, performing arts, painting, photography, yoga, tennis, swimming, ice skating, dance, fencing

4:15: Campers who are planning to leave after their five (5) personally selected courses depart.

Period 6 Courses:

4:15 - 5:15 : Campers in grades 1-11 who are participating in the 6th period will end their day at the Imagination Station.  This is a chance for campers to spend some time sharing common interests with their new friends in a multiage setting.

Each week campers will select from a variety of continuously evolving set of activities including: Create the Ultimate Obstacle Course, City Planning Committee for Monster Town USA, Bring your Own: Book Club, Bring a Game, Play a Game.

5:30 - 6:00: Pick-up. Supervised aftercare - no organized activities will be provided.
Students are signed out by their home team counselor to their parents or designated authorized individual.
