MSU Faculty-Led Short Term Study Abroad Programs

International Field Trips
These study abroad programs are a component of a spring semester course on the Montclair State University campus but include an international field trip, often over the spring break. As the shortest study abroad programs, the actual overseas travel is typically 7-10 days, in mid March, with the course meeting on campus from January through May. Each course is worth three credits. There is no additional tuition cost over the regular spring semester tuition. The only cost is for the travel expenses. Participants travel as a group, and the program cost typically includes airfare, housing, some meals, museum entrance fees, guest lectures and administrative costs. These programs are perfect for novice travelers or for students wishing to explore a new region of the world or theme but with limited time for travel.

2010 International Field Trips include:
London/ Art & Design
Berlin/ Theater
Vienna & Budapest/Music History
International Field Trips may also be offered as part of a pre-session summer course, with 7-10 days of overseas travel in late May.
Madrid/Introduction to International Business

International Summer Institutes
These study abroad programs are 2-6 weeks in length and focus on a particular theme. Most are held at partner universities overseas, but are led by an MSU faculty member with expertise in that region who accompanies the group and enhances their understanding and experience. Participants travel as a group, although weekends are often free for individual travel, and the program cost typically includes airfare, housing, some meals, museum entrance fees, guest lectures and administrative costs. Most programs involve a number of course options from which each participant selects two courses for six credits. Participants register through Montclair State University Summer Sessions and receive MSU credits that may fulfill major, minor and general education requirements.  These programs are also open to students at other universities who register as Visiting Students and receive a Montclair State University transcript for transfer credit to their home institution, and some programs are open to non-students wishing Professional Development Units. Programs and destinations may vary each year.

2010 International Summer Institutes include:
Nice/French Language and Art
Madrid/Spanish Language and Literature
Florence/Italian Language and Literature
Sicily/History and Art History
Verona/Theater and Literature (3 credits; 2 weeks)
Graz/International Business (3 graduate credits; 2 weeks)
