International summer institutes and study tours are offered in conjunction with academic departments and designed by faculty with expertise in the subject area and experience in the country visited.
MSU faculty led short-term study abroad institutes: International summer institutes are 4-6 week thematic study and travel programs led by MSU faculty and held at host universities in France, Spain, Italy, England, Mexico, Germany, China and other countries. Participants select two courses (six credits) from the offerings for that program, focused on language, literature, area studies, cultural history, environmental studies and art history. All international travel arrangements, housing, faculty-led field trips and overnight excursions are built into the programs to provide a comprehensive cultural experience appropriate to novice as well as experienced travelers. Montclair State University faculty accompany the group throughout the programs, and provide on-site support services as well as pre-departure orientations. New programs and destinations are being developed each year.
