WESS: Web Enrollment Services for Students
Starting on July 14th, 2003 Web Enrollment Services
for Students, also known as WESS, replaces the Voice Response
System (VRS) for registration. The VRS has been retired in favor
of a purely web-enabled process. Unlike the VRS, WESS allows students
to not only register for classes, but to view unofficial transcripts,
account summaries, and holds on student accounts. Students may
also change personal information such as PIN numbers for registering,
mailing addresses, and access financial aid information. In order
to access WESS you must have a Student Identification Number (SID)
and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) Number.
Student Identification Number (SID)The SID number is your nine digit social
security number, or an
identification number given to you by the Registrars office.
Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Students with existing PINs: Please note that all
PINs have been changed from four to six digits. If you have
previously established a four digit PIN, please enter that
number followed by two zeroes. For example, if your existing
PIN is 0711, your new six digit PIN would be 071100.
- New Students and Students who have yet to establish
a PIN: A six digit PIN has been initially assigned to
you. Initially assigned PINs will be the date of birth which
is on file for you. For example, if the date of birth which
is on file for you is July 12, 1975, your assigned PIN would
be 071275.
If you do not remember your Student Identification
Number and/or your PIN number, you must visit the Registrar's
office, College Hall room 204, with a form of identification (for
example, a student identification card).
Steps for registering online
- In a Web Browser, go to http://wfs.montclair.edu
- Choose Login into Student Services
- You will then be prompted to enter your Student Identification
Number (SID). You will also be asked to enter your PIN number.
Once you have entered your Student Identification Number and
your PIN number, a Student Services screen will be displayed.
In order to register for a class, you must choose the Registration
and Schedule option from the menu.
- Next, choose the Drop/Add classes option, which
is listed first in the menu.
- Once you have selected Drop/Add classes a drop down
menu will appear. You must select the semester for which you
are registering for (for example, Fall 2003).
- The Drop/Add screen will display any classes that you have
already registered for under the semester you selected in
the previous step. In addition, if you received a permit to
register for a specific course, you will see the permit listed.
At the bottom of the screen, there is a heading, Add Class,
where you can enter the call number of each class you want
to register for that particular semester. The call number
is the five digit number listed in the course schedule
booklet or online next to each course name (for example,
BIOL 598 11143).
- If you need to drop a class, select Drop under the
action toolbar for currently registered courses. Each course
that has been registered for has a toolbar next to it, with
the option to drop the class. By clicking on the word Drop,
the system will remove that specific course from your schedule.
Be aware of deadlines as specified in the Course of Schedules
booklet. You are held responsible for abiding by all deadlines
and policies set forth in the Schedule of Courses booklet
and Graduate Catalog.
Registering for classes and accessing this information has never
been easier. As a first time user of WESS myself this past semester,
I found the online process to be much more convenient and straightforward.
