Artist Diploma

The ARTIST DIPLOMA is designed for highly
talented and motivated young musicians who would
like two years of intensive music study. The program
focuses on the practical, performance-based aspects
of music, including private instruction,
participation in ensembles, and concert experience.
Two full recitals are required during the two years
of study. There is a one-year version of the Artist
Diploma, known as the Performer Certificate (see p.
XXX).
REQUIRED COURSE OF STUDY (24 credits)
The Artist's Diploma is a 24-credit, two-year
program, requiring six credits per semester. Due to
the intensive amount of weekly practicing and
rehearsing involved, students in this program will
be considered to be full-time students.
Sixteen credits of Applied Music Lessons:
MUAP-541 Applied Music I (4 cr.)
MUAP-542 Applied Music II (4 cr.)
MUAP-643 Applied Music III (4 cr.)
MUAP-644 Applied Music IV (4 cr.)
Eight credits, chosen from the following
Ensembles. Each course may be repeated:
MUPR-550 Chamber Ensemble Performance I (1 cr.)
MUPR-551 Chamber Ensemble Performance II (1 cr.)
MUPR-552 Chamber Ensemble Performance III (1 cr.)
MUPR-553 Chamber Ensemble Performance IV (1 cr.)
MUPR-533 Ensemble: Opera Workshop (1 cr.)
MUPR-535 Ensemble: Band (1 cr.)
MUPR-537 Ensemble: Orchestra (1 cr.)
MUPR-561 Harry Partch Ensemble (1 cr.)
Two Recitals:
MUPR-603 Graduate Recital (0 cr.) (may be
repeated)
Each recital must include at least 60 minutes of
music exclusive of intermission.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Students must have a baccalaureate degree or
equivalent from an accredited institution. Audition
requirements for each instrument are available
on-line in the category of "Graduate - Performance"

Credits from previous study may not be substituted
or transferred into the Artist Diploma program. The
one exception applies to students who have just
competed MSU's Performer Certificate program; they
may roll over the twelve credits earned in that
certificate towards this more intensive 24-credit

To encourage international candidates, the
tuition fees will be calculated according to
"In-State" Graduate Tuition, regardless of the
student's origin.
