The Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership at Montclair State University offers students the opportunity to take a sequence of four post-baccalaureate courses required by the New Jersey Department of Education for individuals who wish to become Substance Awareness Coordinators.

The Master of Arts in Counseling with a SAC focus meets State requirements for certificate eligibility. After completing the coursework at MSU the State Education Department will issue SAC eligibility for Employment Certificate, which is processed through the University.  This will enable students to seek a supervised internship/employment placement as a provisional Substance Awareness Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for admission into the Substance Awareness Coordinator Certificate Program students must have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Human Services, Health, Social Work, Teacher Certification, or other related fields. Students must complete Part A of the Office of Graduate Admissions & Support Services Admissions application; submit official transcripts from each college or university attended, along with a brief statement of professional objectives.  Applicants seeking to fulfill the SAC requirements as part of an MA in Counseling should submit GRE scores. All materials should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions & Support Services Admissions Office. Students may begin the program in any semester.
