Initial Instructional CertificationPhysical ScienceNote: This program is for graduate degree candidates who are not certified in any field, and who wish to teach one of the following subjects: art, biological science, business education (no longer accepting new students), earth science, English, French, health, home economics, industrial arts/technology education, mathematics, music, physical education, physical science, social studies, or Spanish. The course of study shown below represents the professional education course work required for students accepted to the program. Additional courses in the subject the candidate chooses to teach may be required. Candidates with strong academic backgrounds in that subject, as assessed by Montclair State University faculty, may have little of this additional course work. Requirements One graduate course in the teaching of reading, 3 credits One graduate course in the teaching for critical thinking (Choose from): Departmental "methods" course(s) (in individual majors), 3-6 credits CURR 500, Fieldwork in Education, 2 credits Professional semester: Departmental Seminar (if required by major department), 1 credits Minimum Semester Hours: 47
