Freshman center named Rookie of the week
Women's basketball freshman center Stephanie Machin earned New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time this season and the fourth consecutive week after averaging 13 points and nine rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Red Hawks ending Feb. 1. She opened the week by tallying a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds in the Red Hawks' 83-73 NJAC victory over Rutgers-Camden on Jan. 28, and  wrapped up the week by posting nine points, six rebounds and three steals in just 13 minutes of play in MSU's 85-59 win at Rutgers-Newark on Jan. 31. With the two victories, the Red Hawks move into a tie for the lead in the NJAC Blue Division with a 6-2 conference mark and stand 15-3 overall. Machin currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in rebounding with an average of 9.4 rebounds per game.

Interim coach garners first win
When the Red Hawk women topped Rutgers-Camden, 83-73 in New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball action on Jan. 28 it was the first victory for interim coach Brian Sentowski.
