Students Jon Hoche and Gia McGlone get ready to take the stage this week as Theatre and Dance presents its fourth main stage production of the season, "The Rivals," a romantic comedy by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Directed by John Basil, "The Rivals" is a story of lies, disguises, deception and confusion, set amidst a funny romantic romp, where human nature, polished manners, folly and foolishness collide. The cast includes Hoche as Captain Jack Absolute, McGlone as Lydia Languish, Tara Henderson as Mrs. Malaprop, Paul Reisman as Sir Anthony Absolute, Marley Bewighouse as Julia, Tiffany Olson as Lucy, Erich Albert as Faulkland, Ben Clawson as Acres, Malachy Orozco as Sir Lucius O'Trigger, Rob Bradshaw as Fag, Shaun Pilkington as David and Andre Stanford as Thomas. Performances are 8 p.m. Feb. 19-21 and 25-28; 2 p.m. Feb. 22 and 1 p.m. Feb. 27 in the L. Howard Fox Studio Theatre. General admission tickets are $15; $12 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; $8 graduate students and non-Montclair State students; free to undergraduate students with valid MSU I.D. Villegas receives prestigious research award
Ana Maria Villegas of Curriculum and Teaching has been awarded the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education's (AACTE) Margaret B. Lindsey Award for Distinguished Research in Teacher Education. The award was presented last week to Villegas at AACTE's 56th annual meeting in Chicago. (Full Story)

Acting students get insider's view from Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg made a quiet appearance on campus Feb. 3, holding an intimate masterclass for theater students. The session began with a Q&A, a suggestion made by Goldberg to help make the students feel more comfortable. The star told of her humble beginnings growing up in the projects of Manhattan and how performing her one-woman show in New York led to her first major motion picture role in "The Color Purple." Former Gov. Whitman guest lectures in two classes
Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman will share her wealth of political expertise and experience with students Feb. 24, when New Jersey's first female governor joins the campus community as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in two classes dealing with women and politics. (Full Story)
