- The North Essex Chamber of Commerce Foundation is offering a scholarship
opportunity to an employee or dependent child of a Chamber member who
is planning to attend a technical school or college next fall. For 11
consecutive years, scholarships have been awarded to deserving, well-rounded
students based on a balance of academic achievement, extracurricular activities,
community service, educational goals and financial need. Because Montclair
State is a chamber member, employees and their children are eligible to
apply. Those interested should call Marie Looney at 4398. Applications
must be in the chamber offices by April 1. - The New Student Experience (NSE) and the NSE Advisory Team are seeking suggestions from the campus community for the theme for summer orientation. Past years' themes include "Discover the Treasures of MSU (2002)," "Unlock a Whole New World (2001)," "Planet MSU (2000)" and "Putting the Pieces Together (1999)." Themes should be 10 words or less. Ideas and pictures or logos to go along with the theme also are welcome. Send suggestions by March 1 to nse@montclair.edu. - The Professional Development and Peer Review (PDPR) Committee is accepting applications for Professional Development Funds for the 2002-03 fiscal year. Applications for professional development activities between July 1, 2002 and June 30, 2003 will be considered for funding. Those who already have completed travel and paid for it can apply for retroactive funding. The deadline for filing is Feb. 28, and awards will be announced by March 28. While all librarians and professional staff are encouraged to apply for funds, priority will be given to first-time applicants. Committee recommendations are subject to the approval of the president. - The African-American Studies Program invites members of the campus community to take a heritage test. The test can be found on the second floor of College Hall on the bulletin board near the elevator. Answer the 60-question test and submit the sheet to Dickson Hall, Room 217 by Feb. 24 to qualifty for a grand prize drawing. - Those who plan to march in the academic procession at commencement on May 9 must order academic regalia by March 14 at the University Bookstore. Forms were distributed last week via inter-office mail. All faculty marshals are required to wear academic regalia. Ordered regalia can be picked up at the University Bookstore from May 5 through May 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at the Continental Airlines Arena on May 9. A signature is required for pickup and return.
