Robert Aldridge of Music has been chosen as a Music Alive Round V Recipient by Meet the Composer at the American Symphony Orchestra and was awarded a two-week composer residency with the Westfield Symphony Orchestra. Nine composers and orchestras were awarded residencies nationally. Aldridge has written more than 60 works and his music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. Excerpts from his opera, "Elmer Gantry," will be performed at Kean University on March 31 as part of the Ars Vitalis series.

Eileen Fitzpatrick of Linguistics received $25,000 from the United States Army Research Laboratory to support linguistics students working on upgrading the Laboratory's machine translation system to enable Arabic to English automatic translation of medical applications.

Patricia Kahn of Information Technology and Jackie Willis of Science and Mathematics presented "Empowering Faculty and Staff with Rich Media" at a vendor show sponsored by the Educational Activities Task Force and the Video Resources Group at Brookdale Community College.

Tim Sullivan of Health Professions, Physical Education, Recreation and Leisure Studies has been elected president of the New Jersey Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NJAHPERD). Joe Locascio, executive director of the 1,300-member association, said, "We are extremely fortunate to have Tim as president. He brings 30 years of experience to our organization along with a vast network of professional associations he has developed during his highly productive professional career."

Vince Walencik of Curriculum and Teaching, Sumi Hagiwara of Elementary and Early Childhood Education and some of their students in their Problem Solving in Science, Technology and Mathematics class will exhibit Science Learning Centers for Clifton school children in grades 1-5 as part of their Science Day.
