The 2006 Commencement exercises will take place in the Continental Airlines Arena at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford on Friday, May 19, beginning at 10 a.m. Montclair State will confer six honorary degrees this year. Richard J. Codey will receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, and Dr. Yu Lizhong a Doctor of Science, honoris causa, at Commencement. The following honorees will receive their honorary degrees at the individual Convocation ceremonies. The Senior speaker is Kirsten L. Brown, a speech communications major, and the Graduate Commencement speaker is Christopher Kelly, a Montclair resident who is earning a master's degree in Spanish. This year the University will award eight doctoral degrees. Doctor of Education in Pedagogy Doctor of Science in Audiology While the University Commencement on May 19 signifies the official conferral of degrees, each College and School will host a Graduation Convocation Ceremony. These pre-commencement ceremonies celebrate students' achievements. Seating is limited and tickets are required for the Convocations. All ceremonies will be held in the amphitheater. In case of inclement weather, the Convocation ceremony will be held in Memorial Auditorium. Since seating in Memorial Auditorium is limited, guest seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be extra seating in the Alexander Kasser Theater where the Convocation ceremony in Memorial Auditorium will be broadcast.
