Director of 'Mad Hot Ballroom' on Campus Today

Marilyn Agrelo

Marilyn Agrelo, director of the critically acclaimed film "Mad Hot Ballroom," will discuss her experience making the film at a lecture today at 4:30 p.m. in University Hall, Room 1070. Her lecture will be followed by a screening of the film and an open discussion. Agrelo’s directorial debut was ranked number seven in the "Top Ten All Time Box Office Documentary" films list.

"Mad Hot Ballroom," a documentary focusing on the lives of New York City students competing in a city-wide ballroom competition, brings forth Agrelo’s vision of the highs and lows associated with kids growing up in the city. The film, recognized by critics as a "window into humanity," maintained a run of more than 24 weeks at the box office. Agrelo, who has more then 15 years' experience in film-making and production, was born in Cuba and relocated to New York City with her family when she was 2.

The event is sponsored by The Latin American and Latino Studies Program.  For more information, please contact Dr. Milton Fuentes at 973-655-7976 or at fuentesm@mail.montclair.edu.
