On "Carpe Diem"   [back to top]

"Carpe Diem," the award-winning half-hour television show produced by broadcasting students, airs Mondays at 5 p.m. on Cablevision (Bergen County), Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Comcast channel 57, Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. on Cablevision (Morris County and Paterson), Thursdays at 3 p.m. on Cablevision (Oakland, Clifton, Teaneck and Pompton); and Fridays at 8:30 p.m. on Clifton Cable channels 19 and 71.

Week of April 29: "The McGreevey Administration." Features Herb Jackson and Dan Sforza of The Record describing the problems and challenges the new governor faces with the budget deficit, the legislature, and transportation. Produced and hosted by Bill Berlin; directed by Valarie Harper.

Week of May 6: "TV News: Are You Buying It?" describes how commercialization, corporate ownership, and the quest for profit have led to a decline in the quality of television news in America. Features former CNN producer John Rhodes, John O'Brien of the Technology Solutions Center, and Thom Gencarelli of Broadcasting. Produced by Alysia Arena, Vicky Menke and Rachel Iovine, directed by Eric Discher and hosted by Vicky Menke.

Week of May 13: "TV Advertising: The Truth Behind the Message" analyzes how ads are created, what attracts attention, and keeping up with trends in consumer consciousness. Features Paul Scipione of Marketing. Produced by Eleanor Aguilar and Rita Tussinger, directed by Eric Discher and hosted by Eleanor Aguilar.

Week of May 20: "Shady Rest" is the history of an African-American country club and its most famous golfer, John Shippen, the first American golf professional. Features an excerpt from Larry Londino's documentary on Shady Rest and an interview with Thurman Simmons, Chairman of The John Shippen Foundation. Producd and hosted by Larry Londino, directed by Valarie Harper.

May 16: A conversation with Roger Kahn, baseball analyst and author of Boys of Summer. Kahn will discuss his years covering the Brooklyn Dodgers, baseball's first integrated team.
