Meet
this year's student speakers
Dua Elayan Obeidallah
is on a quest for courage. She doesn't jump out of planes or ski
down mountain peeks at breakneck speed. For Obeidallah, a shy, quiet
daughter of Palestinian immigrants, just leaving the house or speaking
in class can be intimidating. Obeidallah's fears may sound mundane
to some, and to others not even legitimate, but to her they are
real and she is conquering them one at a time. That may explain
why she accepted the challenge of being this year's senior speaker.

"You like me, you really like me!" Although Tamara Beckford
is too young to remember that famous quote from Sally Field after
she won the Academy Award in 1984 for her performance in "Places
in the Heart," she can certainly relate on many levels. The
23-year-old graduate student in biology was selected from among
five finalists to present this year's graduate commencement address.

Graduation
bittersweet with loss of Jesse Young
Jesse Young's office on the second floor of College
Hall was somewhat of a library. His time as a student followed by
34 years of service to the University generated a collection of
information that would rival any historian's. But it wasn't within
the manila folders in his file cabinets where most of the data about
Montclair State was stored; it was in the banks of Jesse's incredible
memory. (Full Story)
Freshman

As Montclair State bids
