| Outstanding student seeks to change the world: |
|
Yuri Jadotte had a lot to be proud of May 19. Among Montclair State's 3,297 graduates, Jadotte is a standout. Enrolled in the Health Career's eight-year combined BS/MD program as well as the Honors Program, Jadotte is the recipient of the College of Science and Mathematics Graduating Senior Research Award, the Outstanding Molecular Biology Senior Award and the Phi Kappa Phi Award of Excellence, which will give him $2,000 for his future studies.
The East Orange resident holds tight to his dream of becoming a biologist. "Montclair State has provided me with the tools to achieve my goals of becoming a physician and biomedical researcher," he said. Jadotte, who majored in molecular biology with a minor in chemistry, kept his grades at the top while taking time to contribute to the campus and his hometown communities. "My goal was to maintain a 4.0 while remaining highly involved in extracurricular activities. I simply made the necessary sacrifices and time commitments to achieve that goal. "I am grateful for all the support and opportunities that this program and this university have offered me," he said. "The people I have met, the organizations I am a part of, the programs I have participated in and the friends I have made all played a crucial role in my personal growth. I will never forget my experiences at MSU." Serving as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with MSU's Emergency Services and making the Dean's List every semester, Jadotte's ambition and drive on and off campus is evident. "I am motivated to give back to my community because of my life experiences and what I have learned from them," he explained. "By giving back to my community and excelling in academics, I strive to represent the change I want to see in the world." Also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Jadotte is the president of the Haitian Student Association and recipient of the Dean of Students Leadership Award. He has been inducted into the Golden Key International and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, participated in the Students for Medicine and Dentistry Program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry/New Jersey Medical School and is listed in the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Montclair State's eight-year BS/MD program gives students the opportunity to automatically advance to UMDNJ's medical school after successful completion of the required courses at MSU. For more information, contact the Health Career's Program at 973-655-4415. Jadotte will begin his studies at UMDNJ next month. "After earning my M.D., I will then pursue a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry or microbiology," he said. "I will use my skills as a physician and biomedical researcher to provide excellent healthcare to those in need and make positive contributions to the field of medicine through research." |
