The following citation was presented to Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey as she was awarded an honorary degree at the College of Science and Mathematics Convocation.

Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, your career as a skilled physician, visionary health care leader and wise director of one of the world's leading philanthropies is a testament to your care and concern for others.

You have occupied a number of distinguished positions, including the Sylvan Eisman Professor of Medicine and Health Care Systems at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as director of the Institute on Aging. Your leadership skills are currently admirably employed as president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a position you assumed in 2003. In your first year as president, the Foundation made 927 grants and contracts, totaling $316.5 million in support of programs and projects to improve health and health care in the United States.

Your contributions to health and health care include service on many federal committees such as the National Committee for Vital and Health Statistics, for which you chaired the Subcommittee on Minority Populations, and the President's Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry.

You are the recipient of two honorary doctorates and awards from the Harvard School of Public Health and the National Academy of Sciences, among many others.

In recognition of a lifetime of service and dedication to critical health issues in our society, Montclair State University proudly bestows upon you, Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa.
