The following citation was presented to Murray L. Cole as he was awarded an honorary degree at Commencement.

Murray L. Cole, your ongoing support in advancing the work of Montclair State University is an example of your faithful commitment to philanthropic endeavors.

Over the past two decades you have given freely of your time and talents as a valued member and two-time chair of the University's Board of Trustees and, through your work on various committees and initiatives to advance the mission of the University, you have made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of students and to the future of public higher education in the state of New Jersey.

Your thoughtful leadership has extended beyond the boardroom into the classroom through your generous contributions that will benefit generations of Montclair State students.

Your work as a distinguished lawyer for more than 50 years, as well as your service as president of the Passaic County Bar Association, has been recognized through various awards including the New Jersey State Bar Foundation's prestigious Medal of Honor.

For your achievements in the field of law and for your many contributions to public higher education, Montclair State University proudly bestows upon you, Murray L. Cole, the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
