What they said...

Guest speakers Senator John O. Bennett and Assemblyman Peter Eagler offered thoughtful words and meaningful insights to Montclair State's class of 2002. Here are excerpts of what the legislators said:

"Members of the Senate share your family's pride and offer our congratulations to the entire University community on this memorable day...As the father of three daughters, I begin by saying today is not only a monumental event for you, the graduates, but also your family, the ones who have encouraged and supported your efforts from the very beginning of your education...From helping you complete your first book report to guiding you through endless science projects, to sitting through countless parent-teacher meetings, today's celebration is an event to share." --Sen. Bennett

"Each and every one of you graduating today did so with a large amount of work and perseverance...Your four years of academic achievement is now brought to fruition. The long nights of studying and preparing for term papers are over...But this should not be the end of your education. Our state and nation still need your hard work and knowledge in order to bring our nation forward...Montclair State is a community united in equality, justice and opportunity for all...Our late President John F. Kennedy often stated, 'One person can make a difference.' You, as graduates of Montclair State University, are already making that difference. Take your knowledge and education, and continue to make a difference in our cities, towns, state and nation." --Assemblyman Eagler
