Take a Look at This Year's Freshman Class

The Class of 2009--the first to inaugurate a new centennial for Montclair State University, come to campus with diverse backgrounds, technological savvy and a strong academic standing. This class of more than 1,900 students, is the largest in the university’s history. Here are some other statistics about MSU’s latest crop of students:

Admissions had the largest applicant pool in the University’s history at 8,940.  Since 2001, freshman applications have increased by 29 percent.

Students come from 16 different states, every county in New Jersey and 170 towns in the state, from Aberdeen to Yardville.

This year MSU welcomes the largest incoming Honors student class in MSU history with 80 students.

Among the accepted students, the average SAT score is 1103, average class rank is top 25 percent and the average GPA is 3.36.

Among deposit paid freshman, the average SAT score is 1075, average class rank is top 26 percent and the average GPA is 3.34.

58 percent are female.

This year, a significant number of incoming students have indicated involvement in ROTC.  Many applicants have openly contemplated the possibility that their studies might be interrupted by the current situation in Iraq. This is notable since all of these students became involved in ROTC after September 2001, when they were just freshman in High School.
