Field hockey makes top 10 national rank
and athletes receive NJAC honors
One week after garnering its first-ever national ranking, the Montclair State field hockey team earned another first as the Red Hawks cracked the Top 10 in the latest STX/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll.

Montclair State is ranked ninth in the Sept. 16 poll, up eight spots from the previous week's ranking. Messiah College is first followed by defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champion and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rival Rowan University. Also in the poll is The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), fourth, and Muhlenberg College, tenth.

Sarah Levine

The Red Hawks made the jump after a double-overtime victory over top-ranked TCNJ on Sept. 13. Senior Sarah Levine scored three goals, including the game-winner with :01 second left in the overtime period as the Red Hawks rallied from two down in the final five minutes of regulation to post a 4-3 victory. Levine was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the NJAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Sept. 15.She is the second consecutive Red Hawk to be chosen for the NJAC award. Megan Ulicny won the honor on Sept. 8.

Also receiving honors on Sept. 15 was football's defensive end Vin Iachetta who was named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week. Iachetta, playing in his first collegiate game, recorded six tackles including three solo stops as Montclair State fell at home to Springfield, 22-14. He tallied one tackle for a loss and forced a fumble in a game that featured nine turnovers in all. Iachetta's six total tackles rank him sixth among all Red Hawk defenders.
