Montclair
State launches Campaign for the Second Century
Members
of three Montclair State boards gathered at a retreat last week
where plans for the University's Campaign for the Second Century
were unveiled. Members of the University's Board of Trustees, Foundation
and Alumni boards met Sept. 27 at the Prudential Financial Center
in Newark where President Susan A. Cole and representatives of the
Development Office gave an overview of the $50 million initiative.(Full

New
institute established to study the Passaic River
The
Passaic River runs through some of the most densely populated land
in the nation and is afflicted with numerous environmental problems
and a legacy of industrial pollution. Montclair State University
is determined to be a positive force for change through the establishment
of the Passaic River Institute (PRI) for Environmental Research
and Education, under the guidance of its director, Kirk Barrett.

Facilities
Operations launches three new programs
In addition
to spending the summer preparing academic buildings and residence
halls for a new semester, members of Facilities Operations were
hard at work developing three programs designed to improve services
to the campus community--the Facilities Service Desk, the Building
Steward Program and a rejuvenated recycling program.

Theater opens with Baryshnikov this week
Just a few days remain until the Alexander Kasser
Theater officially opens its doors with the exclusive New Jersey
presentation of "The Forbidden Christmas or The Doctor and
the Patient," written, directed and designed by Rezo Gabriadze
and featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov, Jon DeVries,Gregory Mitchell,
Pilar Witherspoon and Yvonne Woods.(Full Story)

This House," written by Robert Aldridge of Music
to commemorate the first music concert in the Alexander Kasser Theater.

Homecoming 2004 will be a weekend
celebration that includes football, food, music, a festive parade,
a rooftop party and a chance for alumni to reconnect with old friends
and classmates. The three-day event runs from Oct. 15 to Oct.

Are we alone in the Universe? That's the question Andrew Knoll,
author of Life on a Young Planet: The First Three Billion Years
of Evolution on Earth,, will ask at this year's Margaret
and Herman Sokol Science Lecture on Nov. 3. The
