Broadcasting celebrates 30 years
The Broadcasting Department celebrated its 30th anniversary Oct. 2 at the Alexander Kasser Theater. The Department also celebrated the 10th anniversary of "Carpe Diem," the weekly student-produced television show that has won three Gracie Awards, a MidAtlantic Emmy, a Telly Award and a CAPE award for best weekly series.

Honored at the event were faculty, past and present, instrumental in the Department's success over the years. It included Howard Travis, Christopher "Doc" Stasheff, Lawrence Londino and John Diglio. "It's important to acknowledge the significant contributions of our faculty," said Patricia Piroh, a Broadcasting producer/director. "During the time they spearheaded the program, Doc, Howard and Larry all created an atmosphere in which students can learn and thrive."

Broadcasting graduates hold positions in every media company in Manhattan, from NBC and FOX News to Z100 Radio and Thirteen. "The Department of Broadcasting has trained and educated some of the top broadcasters in the business," Piroh said. "Our students graduate with significant experience, and that was as true in 1974 as it is today."

Alumna Janet Polsky, a writer and producer for CBS Radio/Westwood One, said the professors in the Department play a significant role in the students' success. "They gave us the skills, knowledge and confidence we needed to make it in a tough, competitive business," she said.
