Changing
attitudes and behaviors toward violence
On
the field, Don McPherson was a two-sport college All-American who
went on to become an NFL quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and
later the Houston Oilers. His best play, however, may have come when
he stepped off the field and decided to challenge men to take a hard
look at their behavior and attitudes toward women. McPherson travels
across the country relating his own experiences in the sports world,
urging young athletes to change a culture that fosters abuse and violence.
Last month, he came to campus for two days to share his message with
Montclair State's athletes and coaches.

New
performance series explores serious issues
What do you see when you look in the mirror? Are
you happy? Content? Disappointed? Dancers and young women battle
with body image issues every day, but through a new program in the
School of the Arts (SART), others will have an opportunity to examine
and discuss self-image issues through a series of educational and

respond to alumni survey
Alumni Relations Director Cathy Katz recognizes
that the nearly 90,000 alumni Montclair State has graduated over
the past century are an important part of New Jersey's history--and
an equally important part of its future. She also realizes that
through the activities and work of its alumni, the University is
playing a vital role in local communities across the country. Eager
to find out more about our alumni and what they're doing, Katz developed
an online survey to get some answers. As it turns out, she got a

Institute celebrates opening
A dedication ceremony marking the opening of the Joseph and Elda
Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America will take
place Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. The Institute is located in Dickson

for Homecoming 2003, and you can be sure Montclair State's cast
of characters will be rooting for the Red Hawks when they battle
Kean University on Sprague Field on Oct. 11.
