GO RED HAWKS!

Field hockey's Sarah Levine featured in Sports Illustrated

Sarah Levine

Field hockey senior Sarah Levine is featured in "Faces in the Crowd" in the Oct. 6 issue of Sports Illustrated.

Levine becomes the third Red Hawk athlete in the past year to make the issue's section. Women's soccer goalkeeper Stephanie Romanko was featured in December 2002 while NCAA champion wrestler Rami Ratel appeared in April 2003.

Levine made the issue for her heroic effort as Montclair State upset then number-1-ranked The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), 4-3, in double overtime at Sprague Field Sept. 13.

Levine scored the final three goals as the Red Hawks rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Lions for just the second time in the last 40 meetings between the teams. The victory catapulted MSU into the top 10 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll.

Trailing 3-1 with just under three minutes remaining, Levine, who was named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored to cut TCNJ lead to one and then tied the game with 38 seconds left. In the second overtime, Levine, who had a goal disallowed with five minutes left, scored the game winner as she knocked in a rebound, sending the MSU bench and fans into a frenzy.

Levine is second on the team in goals (six) and points (15). Click here to read more about her.

Teams hold rankings and athletes earn NJAC honors
Field hockey and men's soccer remained ranked 12th and 14th in their respective NCAA Division III polls as of Sept. 29, while the women's soccer team moved up to number 4 in the Metro Region.

Three athletes were honored by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) on Sept. 29 as football junior Shaun Murray was named Defensive Player of the Week; while junior defender Cassie Nahrebne was chosen as the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, and senior Megan Ulicny earned her second NJAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week honor.
