Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
who will win Saturday's game of football?

"MSU Lost in a Fairy Tale" is the theme for Homecoming 2003, and you can be sure that Montclair State's cast of characters will be rooting for the Red Hawks when they battle Kean University on Sprague Field on Oct. 11.

The celebration, however, begins today as Homecoming Week kicks off at 8 p.m. with the King and Queen Talent Show in the Student Center Ballrooms. Students can check out the contestants' talents before voting for their favorites tomorrow from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Student Center Quad. Other talents in the quad on Tuesday will include a caricature artist, tattoo artist and massage therapist.

Later that evening, Adam Sandler fans won't want to miss "The Happy Madison Show: A Tribute to Adam Sandler" at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms. The show includes a variety of stand-up comedy, skits from Sandler's movies, singing of his favorite songs, trivia and more. The high-energy Sandler look- and sound-alike has been to colleges and venues across New England.

On Wednesday, join other members of the campus community in front of the Student Center for a flag raising and proclamation reading, then head to the quad for the carnival, which begins at 12:30 p.m.

The annual pep rally will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the quad as students show their school pride and cheer on members of the football team. King and Queen finalists also will be announced.

At 8 p.m. students can show off their moves at a foam-video dance party in the Student Center Ballrooms.

Students will have another opportunity to vote for the Homecoming Queen and King from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday in the Student Center Lobby and still have plenty of time to take their chances at Casino Night from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Ballrooms.

On Friday, students will take on staff in a heated game of volleyball at 3:30 p.m. in Panzer Gym. At 6 p.m., the Greeks and Social Fellowships Alumni Reunion will begin in the Student Center Dining Room, while the Student Government Association Alumni Reunion takes place in Ballroom B.

Hopefully students will have saved some energy this week for float building Friday from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in parking lots 24, 25 and 26.

Homecoming Day begins at 10 a.m. in the Student Center, Cafe A with a coffee hour for parents and families. Cost is $8. More information is available by calling the Annual Fund Office at 973-655-7492.

The annual Homecoming Parade begins at 11 a.m. down Valley Road. For a great view of the performances, bring a blanket and take a seat on the lawn in front of the Bond House.

The sporting events begin at 1 p.m. when men's soccer takes on Villa Julie (Md.) at Pittser Field. A barbecue and SGA fair will begin at 1 p.m. on top of the Red Hawk Deck. Come enjoy the view as well as food, games and music to gear up for the big football game against Kean at 3:30 p.m. on Sprague Field. Football alumni are invited to watch the game from the President's VIP Tent, which will be located at the south end of the field. Half-time entertainment will be provided by Drums of Thunder, a percussion group from Hillside Elementary School in Montclair under the direction of alumnus Louis D'Amico.

The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned following the game and awards will be given for the best float and performance.

Football alumni from the 1970s are invited to a reception at the Alumni House from 6-8 p.m. to hopefully celebrate the day's victory and reminise about the '70-'71 national football championship.

The celebration continues with the second annual Clove Road Homecoming Block Party from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. But don't stay up too late. On Sunday, the MSU Basketball All-Stars will take on the Harlem Wizards at 1 p.m. in Panzer Gym. Admission is free for all.

So don't miss out as MSU gets lost in a fairy tale at Homecoming 2003, where everyone lives happily ever after!
