Montclair
State awarded $2.5-million Department of Education grant
The U.S. Department
of Education recently awarded Montclair State a $2.5-million grant
through its highly competitive Transition to Teaching program. The
five-year grant will fund the New Jersey Consortium for Urban Education
(NJCUE). NJCUE, led by Montclair State, will develop and pilot a
new Alternate Route to Teaching program for New Jersey. (Full

Professor
examines how Americans view themselves
and are viewed by others
Nancy Tumposky of Curriculum and Teaching has
traveled the world as an educator and student. She was a Fulbright
lecturer in Slovakia last year and currently is working on a book
for the Council of Europe. Yet, she believes she is less informed
about the world than the average high school student in many of

Course
gives undergraduates opportunity to conduct original research
Does a praying mantis have decision-making
abilities when it comes to attacking its prey? What causes aggressive
behavior in Siamese fighting fish? Is there a correlation between
lack of food and infanticide in mice? These are just a few of the
original research projects conducted by undergraduates in a yearlong
course funded in part by the National Science Foundation. (Full

Plans
taking shape for new academic building
When President Susan A. Cole sent a memo to the
campus community two years ago discussing the proposed New Academic
Building (NAB), she reminded us that the construction of College
Hall was a substantial undertaking at the time. Today, Montclair

Fans of the popular television game show "Weakest
Link" will have to wait until December to see if Montclair
State student Suffiyah Webb proved to be the strongest link or was
voted off the stage by her opponents. And if you think you can get
