- The campus community is invited to attend a memorial service on Oct. 24 for former tennis player Khalid Shahid '99, who was killed in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. Shahid was an employee at Cantor Fitzgerald. The service will be held at 4 p.m., at the gazebo near the tennis courts. A plaque commemorating his life will be unveiled. - The Health and Wellness Center has canceled the influenza immunization clinic originally scheduled for Oct. 25. However, the meningitis vaccine will still be offered as originally planned on that day. Faculty, staff or students who are at high risk and who, as a result, require influenza immunization before November are encouraged to consult with their primary care physicians. - Effective Dec. 1, it will be mandatory to dial the area code for all off-campus calls including local 973 calls. To make an off-campus call, press 9-1-(area code)-7 digit number. For more information, call the office of Telecom Services at 4107 or 7751. - The Women of Montclair State is holding its annual invitation for membership. Dues for the 2001-02 year are $10. Dues and other contributions to the Women of Montclair State provide scholarships to deserving students. To join the Women of Montclair State, send a check, made payable to the organization, to Marsha Campbell-Young, Student Center, Room 407. - The Child Care Center is sponsoring an in-store book fair on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Barnes & Noble on Rt. 46 in West Paterson. The Child Care Center will receive 20 percent of all purchases made at a designated register between 6 and 9 p.m. Don't miss this great opportunity to get an early jump on holiday shopping and raise money for the Child Care Center at the same time. Donations made from the sale of American Flag pins totaled $5,000. All money was forwarded to the National Red Cross. - Senior Laura Popes set the Montclair State field hockey single-season record for points on Oct. 13 when the Red Hawks beat Kings College, 3-1. (More sports information.) - The deadline for filing proposals for Global Education Grants is Nov. 9. (Guidelines, instructions and application forms.) For more information, call Wendy Gilbert Simon at 4185. -The "stop" sign located at Quarry Way has been removed and placed on Quinn Road. The sign had been on Quinn Road until last year when the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) required the University to move it because Quinn Road is a through street. However, placing the "stop" sign on Quarry Road caused traffic to back up and create congestion when exiting the campus. The DOT granted permission to the University last week to put the sign back on Quinn Road. - There is $10 replacement charge for parking proxy cards and a $5 replacement charge for hang tags. Anyone who has paid more than $5 for hang tag replacement will be refunded the difference by Parking Services. - Montclair State employees who are alumni and are interested in becoming
founding members of a Hispanic Alumni Chapter should call Gladys Tate

minimum of 20 active members of the Montclair State Alumni Association
