Ada Beth Cutler of Education and Human Services and Cynthia
Onore of the Center of Pedagogy received $478,812 from the New Jersey
Commission on Higher Education to increase the University's capacity to
prepare highly effective teachers while linking knowledge and performance
with primary through 12th-grade content standards and expanding collaborations
with school systems.
Ramon Delgado of Theatre and Dance had a scene from his award-winning
play, "Waiting for the Bus," reprinted in the Smith and Kraus
publication 103 Scenes for 3 Actors. The scene appears in the collection
along with scenes from Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekhov, Strindberg, O'Neill
and other notable writers.
Jacalyn Willis of Science and Mathematics received $85,000 from
the New Jersey Statewide Systemic Initiative (SSI)/Rutgers to continue
support of the Regional Center of the SSI to provide assistance to school
districts to improve science, math and technology education.
John Wooten of TheatreFest received $27,000 from the New Jersey
State Council on the Arts to fund the second year of a three-year commitment
to provide general support for TheatreFest.
Bonnie Lustigman and Lee Lee of Biology and Molecular Biology;
William Berlin of Political Science; Maria Schantz of the
Reading and Study Skills Center; and Ted Williamson of Science
and Mathematics were part of a team at the first Summer Institute of Science
Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER) held
in August at Santa Clara University in California. This Institute, which
30 colleges and universities throughout the United States attended, was
co-sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and Universities
and the National Science Foundation. Lustigman and Lee applied for the
SENCER grant.
