Yankee great Whitey Ford at Yogi Berra Museum
Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, the winningest pitcher in Yankee history and the winningest World Series pitcher of all time, will sign copies of his new book, Few and Chosen: Defining Yankee Greatness Across the Eras, on Nov. 9 at Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center.

The book is available for sale at the Museum, and those purchasing it will receive free admission as well as an autograph from Ford. The book's co-author, Phil Pepe, veteran Yankee reporter, columnist, author and the sports voice of WCBS-FM, also will be available for signings.

Ford, a native New Yorker, has been a fan, player, coach and broadcaster. In Few and Chosen he uses his unique vantage point to rate in order the five greatest Yankees of all time by position. Rizzuto or Jeter? Mantle or DiMaggio? Gossage or Rivera? Stengle, McCarthy or Torre? Well thought out explanations liven up the lists in this volume, which includes photos and statistical charts.

Ford and Pepe will sign only the book, no other memorabilia. The signing will take place from 6-8 p.m. For more information about Yogi Berra Museum, go to www.yogiberramuseum.org or call 2378.

Lecture takes a look at Australian art
Neville Weston, adjunct professor of cultural heritage at the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage at Curtin University in western Australia, will present "Maps, Message Sticks and Memories," as part of the Art Forum Lecture Series on Nov. 15. The lecture will begin at 2 p.m. in Calcia Hall, Room 135.

A former dean of visual arts, Weston is a practicing painter and writer on art. He has published several books on contemporary art and on Australian artists. He is the art critic of the West Australian newspaper.

His lecture will provide an introduction to the rich breadth of Australian indigenous art practice. Although the so-called dot paintings of the Western Desert are now well known, internationally acclaimed and part of a multi-million-dollar art market, the incredible range of Aboriginal art activity is not so well known.

Hall said she got her inspiration from another writer.
