Frank Delguercio believes in the power of laughter. “Comedy is an escape from hard times,” said Frank, senior office appliance operator in Central Photocopying and Printing. “After our country’s recent tragedies, the need for laughter is even greater.”

Frank says it's his sense of humor that helps keep him, as well as his colleagues, focused. " I think my sense of humor keeps everyone else sane," said Frank, who was a weekend stand-up comic in the 1970s. "I like to be entertaining because I believe that a good sense of humor creates a better work environment."

A 22-year veteran of Montclair State, Frank is involved in producing brochures, booklets and no-carbon required paperwork for the campus community. “I think everyone on campus has received things that we have done, but people don’t realize that we did it,” he said. "Our department saves the University money by keeping folding and collating projects in house."

Before joining the University, Frank worked in the mailrooms of Bell Laboratories and Midlantic Bank. He says he has never regretted his decision to leave the corporate world for higher education. "I feel very lucky to work here, not only for the job, but also because of the people," he said.

Among his good friends is co-worker Jerry Cherry who Frank says showed him the ropes on the job. "I taught myself the collator and Jerry taught me the rest," Frank said. "I was taught at the Jerry Cherry School of Hard Knocks."

Frank says some of his most interesting moments at work involve meeting new people. "I try to make everything as friendly as possible and I encourage questions. I may not have all the answers, but I always try my best," he said. "I also like what I'm doing. Every day it is interesting for me."

A diehard Yankee fan, Frank enjoys writing poetry and traveling. One of his favorite destinations is Las Vegas, where he's been five times, and he is planning a trip this summer to Canada.

"I think being at Montclair State for 22 years is my greatest accomplishment," Frank said with a smile. "That accomplishment has a lot to do with the great people I work with. My greatest wish is to retire with my sense of humor intact."
