Mary Colon of Academic Affairs a sports fanatic? Maybe not. But when it comes to watching her 10-year-old son, Jonathan, play basketball, Colon is the team's biggest fan. Jonathan plays for the Newark Lakers in a Biddy Basketball League run through the North Ward Center in conjunction with the Newark Boys and Girls Clubs. And when Colon and her husband, Pedro, aren't cheering on the team, they are coaching another team, the Celtics in the Pee-Wee League. "Both my husband and I grew up in Newark and we've always had a connection to the Boys and Girls Club," Colon said. "We've been volunteering as coaches for the past three years because we love it and want to give something back to the children in the city where we grew up."
