| Montclair State University Appreciates Your Support: Pledge day is one way to show your pride for MSU |
On October 5th, Montclair State’s 2nd Annual Pledge Day took place in an effort to assist the college’s finances. Faculty and staff from MSU reached out to their campus community with their donations and received gifts in return for their contributions. This year’s Pledge Day was more successful than last year with twice as much being raised in gifts and pledges. In all, 67 people contributed more than $12,000 this year. Barbara Krusko, director of the Annual Fund, said, "Private support for Montclair State is more important than ever before as the University faces the continuing issue of reduced state appropriations." Not only is the faculty and staff campaign an opportunity for employees to help enhance the work and learning environment at Montclair State through financial contributions, it’s an opportunity to show support for the University and our students while setting an example for others by demonstrating the impact that each gift has on insuring excellence at Montclair State. The Faculty and staff annual campaign will continue through the end of the fiscal year and employees can participate by making a gift at any time between now and June 30. The Annual Fund Call Center The Annual Fund Call Center at Montclair State University is one way in which the University stays connected with alumni, parents and friends. The center is committed to relaying the important message that all members of the MSU community, past and present, are an important part of the University’s future. The Call Center employs more than 50 Red Hawk Callers (student callers) who contact MSU alumni, parents and friends in an effort to update people on new initiatives at the University, as well as confirming that the alumnus’ vital information is correct so that they can stay in touch with them in the future. The Red Hawk Callers have the important job of connecting one-on-one with alumni over the phone. Emily McDonough, a Red Hawk Caller, said she loves to connect with alumni. "I feel that I have connected more with MSU since becoming a Red Hawk Caller." "I have spoken to graduates as far back as the class of 1938. I was told that after WWII there were barracks on campus for veterans to live in with their families while they were completing their degree," said McDonough.
Callers ask alumni about their MSU experience and in turn share a little about what life is like at MSU today. Speaking with a current MSU student can bring back a bit of nostalgia for their MSU days. Most importantly, callers ask alumni and parents to support the University’s Annual Fund. "Not only has the call center allowed me to become friends with my fellow students, but it has also given me a chance to become part of MSU’s future," said McDonough.
