Last week's snowstorm covered the campus in a beautiful white blanket. Members of Physical Plant-Grounds worked around the clock in a cleanup effort that included spreading 15 tons of road salt, and 5,000 pounds of calcium and sodium chloride. A 25-member shovel crew and 22-member road crew participated in a race against Mother Nature to keep the sidewalks, steps and building entrances clear.

Call heads to Bratislava on Fulbright grant
Mary Call of Linguistics has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture on education and second language acquisition next semester at Comenius University in Bratislava. This is the third Fulbright for Call, whose research over the years has focused on second language acquisition and psycholinguistics--the study of language and the mind. (Full Story and Photo)

Music Department receives donation of vintage violin
There's a lot of history behind the 1880 A.B. Clark violin that was passed down to Scott Williams, director of PSE&G, when his father Roger passed away in 1992. With Williams serving as narrator, the violin becomes a storybook in which tales of a family of musicians come alive in the fine lines of the instrument's maple grain. (Full Story and Photos)

Art Gallery opens gift shop
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has one. The Louvre has one. Even the Montclair Art Museum has one. And now, the Montclair State University Art Gallery has one. What they have in common isn't a Van Gogh--it's a gift shop. (Full Story and Photo)

Effort being made to increase participation
in Employee Charitable Campaign

The 2003 Employee Charitable Campaign is underway, and the goal is for Montclair State to have 5 percent employee participation by Dec. 24. The Employee Charitable Campaign Coordinating Committee (ECC-CC), headed by Judith Lin Hunt, dean of Library Services, recently met with representatives to learn more about the campaign and how to get employees involved. Parking deck to get a name
The Montclair State Board of Trustees is expected to vote on naming the parking deck at its Dec. 12 meeting. President Susan A. Cole will recommend the "Red Hawk Deck," based on the overwhelming number of suggestions to use the Red Hawk mascot in the name. (Full Story and Photos)
