MSU Participates in Global Megaconference

Montclair State was one of 432 institutions from all over the world that participated in the seventh annual Megaconference, which reached an audience of 1,000 people. Each year, the Megaconference occurs as a result of a tremendous amount of volunteer effort and good will, with the goal of connecting people together in order to further the use of videoconferencing in education and research and to advance the state of the art in videoconferencing technology. MSU's participation in the international videoconference took place in College Hall via its connection to NJEDge.net and Internet2.

Speakers from across the globe shared their latest real-world uses of H.323 videoconferencing and other compatible systems, through the use of this technology. The audience consisted of active participants who have access to advanced Internet connectivity and an H.323 or other compatible videoconferencing endpoint, and observers who watched the simultaneous stream using a Web browser and freely available stream players.

This year's theme was "Increasing Empathy Through Video Conferencing." The Megaconference, which took place around the world, began at 7:30 a.m. and continued until 11 p.m.

Presentations included a visit to the southern skies above the City of Bathurst in the Central West of New South Wales, 200 km. west of Sydney, Australia through the lens of a telescope; South India's Children's Songs, Chants, Dances, and Games from Chennai, India; Egyptian Traditions in Ramadan from Cairo, Egypt; plus others from the United Kingdom, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, Fiji, Taiwan and China.
