Hurricane Katrina Relief Information The devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina has touched not only the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in Mississippi, Louisiana and surrounding southern states, but also the hearts of those at Montclair State who want to help those so tragically affected by this natural disaster. This Web site will provide information to the MSU community on how they might be able to help the victims of this terrible storm either through events and/or programs here at MSU or through outside agencies and other relief efforts. The site will be updated regularly. Information concerning relief plans by MSU student organizations should be directed to Fatima DeCarvalho, Director of Student Activities at decarvalhf@mail.montclair.edu, or call 973-655-7818. Academic * New Student Experience raised $150 at their September 15 program, "Class 2009: Our Commuity Reunion." The money is going toward Habitat for Humanity's effort to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. * Katrina Relief Brazilian Big Band - Saturday, September 17, 7:30 p.m. * Kabaret for Katrina * The Montclair Fire Department is looking for volunteers to give a physical hand in loading, sorting and packing goods that were collected for the Hurricane Relief efforts. Volunteers need to contact Krysthian LeMus at lemusk@mail.montclair.edu or 973-655-3434 to schedule times. The volunteers can help between the hours 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Thursday, September 9th - Sunday, September 11th. * New Student Experience is sponsoring the Class of 2009 "Our Community" Reunion/Dance to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity's Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund on Thursday, September 15 @ 7:30 p.m. in SC Ratt. Donation of any amount will be collected. * In conjunction with the Montclair Fire Department, the Office Student Activities will be collecting the following items: cases of bottled water, energy bars, non-perishable foods, canned foods, disposable diapers, first aid kits, flashlights, and personal hygiene kits. These items maybe brought to the Student Center Commuter Lounge located in room 103. We ask that you please bring your items by Friday, September 9 @ 12 p.m. The items will be delivered to the Headquarters of Montclair Fire Department Friday afternoon. Student Activities is collecting monetary funds towards the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Every Friday, all monies collected will be sent to the Red Cross and a tally will be kept and announced to the Montclair State community. Students from the MSU Athletic Training Program have been helping 10 students in an athletic training program in Louisiana. Nine students lost everything during Katrina and one lost everything during Rita. The MSU students raised $400 during Homecoming as well as fourteen boxes of clothing, shoes, linens and a few gift certificates which were already been sent. The money will go towards gift certificates so that the Louisana students can purchase personal items and toiletries. Benefit Dinner for Katrina Victims * Funds collected as of 9/22: Individual donation; $200 Total raised as of today: $1,534.43 * Flag Football Tournament * Minority Teacher Candidate Organization (MINTCO) collected $82 towards the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. $48 was collected in College Hall on Monday, September 12 and $34 was collected during the Student Organization Fair on Wednesday, September 14. * Campus Recreation Bingo Bonzanza and Aerobics Jam on Thursday, September 8 collected $81 for the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund Student Activities had collected $100 in checks for the Red Cross as of today. Total as of Friday, September 9, 2005 = $1,185.17 * Funds collected as of 9/7: Delta Chi Freeman and Russ RA Staff Fall Frenzy Committee Total raised as of today: $1,004.17 * During the ASSIST Coffeehouses on Thursdays, September 8 and 22 money will be collected for the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. The coffeehouses are held in the Student Center Rathskellar from 9 p.m.-Midnight. * The Brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity will be selling Mardi Gra beads and collecting money for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund on Saturday, September 3, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bohn/Blanton Quad during Move In Day. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. * The Freeman and Russ RA staff will be collecting money for the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund on Saturday, September 3, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Freeman/Russ Quad during Move In Day. * Punk & Rock Show * Local collection: Clothing, water, Gatorade, energy bars, canned goods, blankets, disposable diapers, first aid supplies, flashlights, batteries and personal hygiene kits will be collected in a truck outside Montclair fire headquarters (Pine & Bloomfield) starting today. Other Montclair firehouses and Just Jakes restaurant will also accept donations. More info 973-509-4767.
